Today's Fiji quake ,depth was 669 KM's
Now ,the plate thickness ,to the best of my knowledge can go up to 200-250
How come the centre was at such a great depth

1) As plate tectonics explains normal quakes as sudden relative movment of two plates and resulting jerks/force ,that create quakes. Now what relative movment can occur at such a depth
2)There has to be enough heat to dissolve the plate before it reaches such a depth,considering average plate thickness 100to150 km,this is 5 to 6 times the thickness
3)Ok. What exactly happened when such a deep quake occur Have any one formulated or created a model of such quakes.

One such question is how major quakes occur on a location which is not on plate nounbounda. Answer is intra plate quake
Now ,how on earth ,a relative motion occur in side a single plate
Think out of the box
Think like a police man ,who questions and suspect each person ,in his investigation

The subducting quake moving downward

Obviously it isn't that hot or we wouldn't see quakes from the plate fracturing.

Of course. There are whole books on the subject.

By either buckling due to compressive forces or by cracking due to separating movement.

ReplyDeleteToday's 6.6 quake at Fiji exactly after 24 hrs of major quake is proof to my cycle quake theory.
The theory states that after a major quake (7+) ,there are fair amount of chances that another major (6+) occur after
24 hrs
seven /eighth day
14th/15th day
This is because ,the potential position which has triggered the first major quake ,will again happen when Moon moves
A complete round in 24 hrs
Another position 90degree away (7/8 day)
Yet another potential position when Moon moves 180 degree (14/15) days
That is exactly why ,people should remain alert on next day,a week later and a fortnight later
Hope Indonesia Government learn this.
